Mays de Vers to Cahors

Good morning.   Today seemed rather long probably because I knew that I had a day off tomorrow. My guidebook indicated that today was pretty much downhill but he forgot about that huge mountain in between.  He musta been high when he described this journey.  I was expecting an easy day and it turned out to be quite challenging.  The good news is that it was only 14.6 miles.


The French are very thoughtful of walkers--a storm shelter and a bathroom.



This photo looks very blurry but it isn't, it was just pouring rain.  I got a big laugh over "Mr. Ed" here staying dry.  There were two other horses in the field getting soaked by the cold rain, but this one evidently had sense enough to get out of the rain.

This is the typical French mailbox.  It takes a key to leave mail in it and a key to open it.


I had to stop and wait for the beautiful working dog to get all his sheep across.  He let me know in a no-nonsense way to just hold off.  Then he came over for a scratch on the head while the sheep meandered along but there was no question about me standing still until he was finished.  He was a three-legged dog. One back foot was deformed much like the babies with flippers for arms.  It didn't slow him down at all. Someone had the good sense to hire the handicapped.

The River Lot at a very wide point approaching Cahors.

I was starving when I got to the edge of Cahors.  The first place I saw was an Indian sort of sandwich shop. I ordered a chicken tiki masala on Naan bread.  It was terrific.  I watched the cook kneed my sandwich dough and then place it in a bowl-shaped oven to cook.  It came out piping hot and puffy.  Then he added the spiced chicken and lettuce and tomatoes and onions and some sort of garlicky sauce.  He gave me a large handful of pomme frites.  This sandwich was good in that way that a really good burger is when it drips down your chin and is difficult to eat with any decent table manners. What a strange thing to order in France but ever so worth it. 

The most exciting thing that happened today was that I have clean laundry!  Whoohoo!  I literally had no clean piece of clothing left but now it is all clean. I managed to secure a taxi (my laundry bag was really heavy) and get to the Lavenderia and then call a taxi to take me home. AND I figured out how to use the washer and dryer.  I am pert near a genius.

So now that I have my chores done, I am free to explore this historic city tomorrow.
