The charming Cathedrale Saint-Gervais-Saint Protais has a very high clock tower which can be seen from quite a distance. It is a major landmark in this part of France The bells ring between 7:00 am and 10:00 pm with but with a more ornate sequence of rings at 8:00, noon and 7:00 pm.
Boy, the French own stained glass windows. These are the two above the altar.
Saint Jacques (St. James)
The door to the bibleotécque (Library) The one phrase I remember from high school French is "Ou es la Bibleotéque. I"ve still never had the need to ask anyone where the library is.
Such beautiful vegetables.
Every town has its art.
On a hike, I always have to have my total dingbat day. Today was it. I wandered around the small town and stopped in several stores and bought some supplies and then dumped them back at the room. I walked down to the end of the town and started to purchase a slice of focaccia bread. No wallet. OMG -the panic sets in. I told the woman at the store that I had to go back to get my money and she sat the half cut focaccia aside. She was very nice. I raced back towards the last store I was in, sending frantic arrow prayers to the man upstairs: "Please let me find it" I raced into the Fromagerie and nope, they don't have it. More frantic prayers. As I am walking as fast as these short little legs will go back to the hotel thinking I know I didn't take my wallet out in the room. I raced into the hotel with one last prayer and sure enough, I don't see my wallet. I got that total sinking feeling like what am I going to do? I did have my passport with me. I happened to glance over at my grocery bag and inside there was my wallet with all my money, credit cards, etc. I had put it in the bag with my cheese and apples. Thank you, Jesus!
Dennis made it in okay after the long flights from Louisville to Atlanta to Paris to Toulouse and then a 75-mile car ride. Needless to say, he is pretty tired. We had dinner in this little elegant restaurant in the hotel. I already knew it would be good because I ate there last night.
This was our little Amush Bouche or teaser. We followed it with a teacup of soup, then an asparagus dish with a parmesan crisp and a crumble over it. Our main course was fish over vegetables and then I had a souffle and Dennis had a strawberry rhubarb dessert. Both had homemade ice cream. Just his first of the wonderful French meals to be had. We also had some really good wine to go with it. You know we are a mixed marriage...I drink white and he drinks red.
So until tomorrow!
