Cahors to Montcuq

I crossed over the ancient bridge first thing this morning.  I loved this view.  If you look carefully in the shadows, there is a staircase leading up to a mysterious door.  Rapunzel?

This beautiful house sat beside the bridge overlooking the River Lot. What an amazing view they had.

The River Lot from the viewpoint of the house and the viewpoint of the bridge.

I started with an incredibly steep climb up the side of a straight up mountain.  In fact, it was so steep that sometimes, I had to scramble.  With my short stubby legs, I couldn't always reach the next step up.  This was taken from about halfway up the climb. Then I walked along the cliffs.  If you have a problem with heights, this would not be your favorite day.

Always glad to see St Jacques.

A very old cross and it had the shell on it. My prayers must have joined the multitude of ones, over centuries, from the pilgrims who came before me.

Some of the long trail totaling 22.1 miles.

Gites are Alburgues or Refrugios.

More trail through a section of burned trees.

This was a hotel at about the 14-mile mark.  I wished I had been staying there. It was beautiful.  Just before this I actually found a little trailer and they had Coca-Cola Zero.  Sitting at the next table were two Germans, husband, and wife. She explained that every year they spend two weeks going further and further on the Chemin de Saint Jacques. They were also headed to Montcuq They were sharing a bottle of red wine.  Hopefully, the next eight miles were good for them. I guessed them to be about my age? I'd probably be laying in the bushes if I had started wine at that point.  LOL

This is the Chapel of St Jean de Froid.

and the interesting stained glass windows.  There was an indication of a legend associated with this name/church but I couldn't find it on wiki or anywhere else.

I had much up and down today plus the journey was 22.1 miles.  There were several times that I wondered if I was still on the trail.  Nothing like hitting the twenty-mile mark and thinking you are lost.  Did I get lost?  Drum roll, please.....  No!  I didn't make a single wrong step AND it was still four miles longer than advertised. Whew!  When I got closer and closer, my dogs were barking, then howling and finally whimpering.  I have never been so happy to take off a pair of shoes in my life.

So forgive me today, if I don't answer emails or comments.  I am too pooped to pop.

Kisses to you all and goodnight!
