Well, what an interesting night I have had. Dinner was lovely. I started with an egg dish with cheese, minced ham and cream. Before it came, I shot an arrow prayer up and said please don't make it an over easy egg. Sure nuff, kinda poached egg. I didn't break the yoke but ate around it and it was quite tasty. Not the kinda thing I can hide in a baggie. My main course was similar to a shepherd's pie but with chicken and the dessert was a very delicious creme brulee. Not my favorite menu but better than some of the things I make at home.
When I came out of the restaurant, it was pouring so I had to wait for a minute and then I ran for the hotel. Oh, mon Dieu. I was locked out of the hotel without my phone. There was a blue button to push to get you inside and it wouldn't work. I went next door to a kinda guy type bar and threw my self on the mercy of the bartender. He didn't speak English so I pantomimed. Thank heavens the key had the hotel emergency number on it. He made a call and then someone called him back and gave him a code to get in. There were three guys in the bar, all charming but not exactly sober and they were also trying to help. Who says the French aren't nice? The bartender came over to the hotel, rain and all, and punched in the code and then held the door open for me. What a lovely man!
So all's well that ends well!
