Good morning. I have the day off. Woohoo! I have a list of things that I need to do and buy. The top of my list was laundry. Wouldn’t you just know it? There is no laundrette in this town. Oh, well - I now have to do some hand laundry. My first stop was this shop that sells hiking stuff. I bought a new water bladder, two shirts, and a hat. Charming ladies who ran this shop. I went back two times to ask where other things were. I didn’t sightsee as much as I wanted because I am trying to give my knee a break. Tendonitis with a vengeance. I bought an Ace bandage to support it, along with some Arnica and some Vitamin I (Ibuprofen).
Clever name for a shoe store.
Dang! I missed the duck race. Do you suppose it is like the Kentucky Derby?
Another cute name, this time for a bike store.
I find what I crave on a hike interesting. Sometimes it is protein, but this time it is cookies. Not just any old carbs, but specifically cookies. Not chocolate but crunchy cookies. I found these in a health food store. I love ginger, so we will see tomorrow how they taste.
What a pretty shop!
For dinner, I ate at the White Lion, which was recommended by my B & B.
I wasn’t up for a full English meal, so I ordered Ox Cheek Croquettes with beer onions and Henderson’s relish. I also ordered Ham Hock Terrine with pickles, Rosemary and Garlic Focaccia Bread. The croquettes were crunchy, succulent, and ever so tasty. The Ham Hock Terrine was fabulous, chunks of ham molded into a terrine. I will need to walk 30 miles tomorrow just to work this dinner off. I had a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, which was delicious. I debated on a second glass, and what the hell, I am on vacation. I swear the bartender gave me a double huge glass, end of bottle. Whee. Luckily, I am on foot.
At home, I had my dessert: a coconut cream pastry bun. I purchased it earlier in the village and saved it for dessert. My Great Aunt (?) Juanita used to make incredible coconut cream pie, and this had the same type of filling. It's too bad John Ames wasn’t here to share; he also loves coconuts. I am stuffed.
That is all the news that is fit to share. Good night and God Bless.
