Edale to Torside 4/22/25

This is a day late because the internet wasn't strong enogh to upload photos to my blog. My first real hiking day on the Pennine Way and it was challenging, clocking in at 20.2 miles.

Pretty dire warning about speed.

If you look carefully, underneath this tent is another tent. Both look sturdy and expensive.

Off I go.

The initial trail was shady and smooth.

I don't know why I thought a hike in England would be easier than any other trail. It was a bear of a day.

Mountain after mountain to go up and come down. Then repeat.

There were very few structures along the way.   However, there were many sheep, and since this is lambing season, I saw many cute little babies.

High Peak says it all. Up and Up!

This looks like a nothing climb until you notice that tiny person at the top.

I saw lots of rock towers.

These markers are only on the high peaks, a tribute to getting there.

Another peak, another climb.

There were many types of trails today. This was at about mile 18. Up and up. Pant pant - gasp gasp!

For my friend JoAnn and my other Rotarian WCL friends, such as Trudy! Those Rotarians are everywhere.

My accommodation for the night was at The Windy Harbour Farm Hotel. There was a celebration of life going on, but it was more like Payton Place. There were several almost-fights over various women who kept changing whose lap they were sitting on. The owner of the hotel told me they had all been drinking since one o'clock. It entertained me while I was trying to get photos to upload.

I have laughed over the quality of British food for years; I stand corrected, my meal was terrific. I ordered Bangers and Mash, and they were delicious. I had roasted carrots and parsnips atop sumptuous creamy mashed potatoes, covered in gravy, with local sausages rounding out a darn good plate of food.

I am too tired to write more. Good night and God bless!
