Bonjour mes amis!
As I was leaving Lodèive, I spotted this war tribute - one of the most moving that I have come across.
The front of Cathedral Saint Fulcran. I think yesterday's photo was of the back of the Cathedral.
A secret garden door.
Today's scenery was magnificient, but it was a long day with more than enough uphill. It suddenly dawned on me why there is always more uphill than downhill. It takes at least twice, if not three times, as long to climb a steep hill as to go down it So I actually spend more time going uphill than down Duh! The exception to that rule would be if you have to use your sticks due to treacherous steps.
This was a total mountain day! Up and up and then more up Then a very long downhill, mostly on roads and then some more up.
The Col de la Baraque de Bral was the high point.
I love this view of the manor house sandwiched in etween the mountains. I took this photo when I sat plopped down on the gravel road and wolfed down the other half of my bread and cheese. Suddenly I was ou of fuel and starving. I had been looking for a more comfortable place to sit but I needed some food.
This remind me of the Grandfather's cottage in Heidi. I am sure that it in reality it looks nothing like the one in the movi with Shirley Temple that I saw as a child. I loved that movie, and it started my desire to hike in the Alps. And the rest is herstory.
Today was pretty remote. Jonce was the first village that I came close to, and it was near the end. No bars, and I would have killed for a Coca-Cola Zero.
Coming into Lunas.
I did not get lost at all today - always a blessing. I had a terrible time finding Hotel Manoir Gravezon.
And for the first time in the hike, my map did not lost its pin. It led me right to where the hotel was supposed to be, but it was only a garage with a house above it. I had the right address, #5 Rte de Bédarieux. I tried ringing the doorbell, and no one answered. I tried using the phone listed on my papers, but it didn't work. I wandered around trying, and trying to find it. I went to the Visitor Information twice. The second time, the woman agreed to call the hotel, and she told me that the hotel name had changed to Chambres. It turned out to be down the street about a block on the other side at #22. But the hotel is very nice and all is well. I have tomorrow off.
Dinner was a salad with all sorts of interesting tidbits
And then surprisingly, a chinese chicken dish that was quite tasty.
Dessert was a steamed puppding with nutmeg and maybe with maybe chestnuts. It was puddled in vanilla sauce. A perfect ending for a 21.8 mile day counting the search for my hotel. All the steps count as far as my feet are concerned.
So I may not post a blog for Thursday, 4/14/22. This town is tiny an I am guessing not muh to do so I will be reorganizing my stuff and taking it easy.
