What a journey! I started in Louisville and flew to Charlotte. As soon as I got to the Charlotte airport my fancy-smancy Garmin watch locked on vibrate. It vibrates to tell me to move if I have been sitting too long. And it will actually tell me to move after I have hiked twenty-eight miles...most annoying. So for two hours I felt like I had an angry bee attached to my wrist. Finally, after I heard a couple of people ask what that noise was, I put it in my backpack until the battery ran down. I sure hope when I finish recharging ti that it is back to normal because I rely on it for mileage. That is how I know I am getting close to where I need to be.
The flight from Madrid to Charlottte was very rough. Luckily I carry Bonine (the best motion sickness pill in he world) or I would have been airsick. I got up to use the ladies room and the plane dropped and I practically landed in some young Spanish man's lap. At least he was cute. I am sure when he tells the story, it will be that some little old lady woke him up. Oh, well. I then had a seven...SEVEN hour layover in the Madrid airport. I knew it was going to be that long but that is tough.
Finally my flight lands at the Asturias Airport and I go to the conveyor belt and no suitcase. Now I have said many times that a girl can do anything with an extra pair of clean panties but I didn't really want to start out testing that theory on the first day. I sent some big arrow prayers up and they evidently worked. I (and four other people) was at the wrong baggage claim. Hallelujah1 I was really glad to see all my stuff.
I had arranged a pick-up service and there stood a nice Spanish man holding a sign with my name. It was even spelled correctly. We had a lovely thirty minute drive to Oviedo and I got a good look at the mountains. They are pretty big. Got kinda nervous and really excited! When I got here all of the stores were closed today because it is a holiday...Asturias Day. I was going to get a few supplies but I will have to wait until tomorrow
Lucky for me, the restaurants were open and I had Fabadas Asturias, one of my favorite things on earth. I do love me some beans and these are definitely giganta beans. They are cooked in some sort of heavenly broth with sausages. I don't eat the blood sausage (the black thing ) but they usually only give you one small piece. This little bowl of beans was nineteen euros. My two glasses of wine totaled three euros. I guess the motto in Spain is eat less...drink more. To Spain! It was totally worth it.
So I am fading fast and will sign off here. You must excuse all typos, bad grammar, etc from a tired girl. I have tomorrow to adjust to the time difference, buy supplies and play tourist. Hope your day was shorter than mine.
