Pamplona Friday

If this wasn't just perfect...I was strolling around the square and this handsome gentleman was playing "Hallelujah".  Not only is it one of my very favorite songs, it was exactly how I felt about arriving in Pamplona.  Halleluhah! I stood and listened to every one of those beautiful Leonard Cohen verses.  Did you know it is considered a secular hymn? "Hallelujah" is a little like "Bye Bye American Pie"...I don't fully understand it but I love it anyway.

Pamplona is known for tapas.  I found this little bar and my oh my look at the selection. As far as the eye can see...culinary delights.  Tapas are really good for hungry hikers because you can order them earlier than dinner which usually doesn't begin until 8:00 or 8:30 pm. So I had my dinner at 6:00 pm.

More tapas.

I finally chose a patata croquetta.  It was basically really rich mashed potatoes with tiny pieces of Jamón Iberíco (Iberian ham) blended in.  Then they rolled it in fine bread crumbs and deep fried it.  I also ordered these small chorizos which are very common on bar menus. These were served over sliced potatoes on a piece of toast.  It was a tasty combination.

Sandy and Rowena from New Hampshire.  As you can tell it is raining outside.  I brought an umbrella with me.  It is turning out to be a good thing because it is supposed to rain for the next ten days.  I won't carry it on the trail but it is certainly handy for about town.
