Happy US Veteran's Day.
I wonder if they serve hog jowl, greens, and butter beans. When I was a new FBI Agent, and assigned to Jackson, Mississippi, the two other new people were black men. One day, they asked me if I wanted to join them for some soul food. I was all excited and anxious to try something new. When I looked at the menu, it was all the things I grew up eating - yep - hog jowl, butter beans, greens, and much more. One day, one of the men approached me and said they couldn’t eat with me anymore because they were afraid they were going to be lynched. It was unusual in Mississippi for a white woman to eat with two black men, and I had noticed people staring. We were co-workers! Thank goodness, we have come a long ways?
Crossing the iron bridge over the Rio Sil.
César Dios Rodríguez was one of the more popular musicians in Pontevedra and he played the accordian. He recently died at 81.
For my sports betting friends (Harry), Overtake is a Sports betting venue.
Looks like fun as long as you pick a winner.
Gaggle
Gaggle
Gaggle. Her backpack is as big as she is. I wondered if she had the children in there. Since almost no one camps out on the Camino Portuguesa, maybe she was emigrating It is the most popular place for American expatriates!
A lot of hopes, dreams, and prayers were laid at the foot of this cross.
I love these little workout parks.
He is a happy Peregrino. I think he had more than a Coke Zero at the last watering hole. Good thing he has that staff to hold him up.
From AI, "The Via Roman XIX is an ancient Roman road in northwestern Spain that historically connected the cities of Brácara Augusta (Braga, Portugal) and Astúrica Augusta (Astorga) through Lucus Augusti (Lugo). Today, parts of this historic route are still visible and accessible as trails, particularly in the region of Galicia, and are often used as part of the Camino de Santiago. These trails offer a glimpse into Roman history through features like preserved milestones, bridges, and original road sections."
Easy to spot him with his green knit cap. I passed him several times and then when I stopped for a Coke Zero, he passed me.
I have many places in mind where I would like to post this sign.
I saw many of these signs. I had managed to walk the highway for a short period of time searching for a bar. It appears that the locals do not like the Spiritual route of the Camino because it doesn’t pass through their area. I have alternated between about three routes on this journey because they run parallel.
Finally, a break. I had been looking for more than two hours. My pinchu was an excellent sausage sliced very thin with a piece of bread.
Coming into Caldas de Reis was this rock barrier causing a mini waterfall.
The Iglesia de Santo Tomás Beckect, or the Church of Santo Tomás Becket in Caldas de Reis, is the only church in Spain dedicated to the English martyr, St. Thomas Becket. Its dedication commemorates Becket's visit to the town in 1170. Becket was Archbishop of Canterbury and the most important bishop in England. In 1170, he was brutally murdered in Canterbury Cathedral. Miracles attributed to Thomas Becket, primarily after his death, include the healing of various ailments, such as blindness, paralysis, and leprosy, as well as the regrowth of lost body parts. Notable examples depicted in Canterbury Cathedral's stained-glass windows include the healing of two lame sisters, the regrowth of a man's eyes and genitals after he was unjustly castrated, and a monk who recovered after drinking blood mixed with relic water.” I guess most castrated men would definitely think regrowth was a miracle. This 12th century folks were brutal.
The High Altar.
The wood was just beautiful in this church. Every church along this route seems to have a tribute to Saint James. I laugh sometimes over SAINT James. To the best of my knowledge, there are no Saints in my James family.
I have the cutest tiny room in Spain. It is a beautiful room just itty bitty.
The bathroom is about six feet by six feet - very modern!
Dinner began with an amuse-bouche of tuna empanada. I took a big bite before I remembered to take a photo. The second piece I put in a baggie for tomorrow. I can’t eat as much as they give me. I am used to Dennis helping me out.
I had a three-course included meal tonight. I decided to get two starter courses instead of a starter and an entree. I chose the Italian Salad, which had three peppers stuffed with goat cheese, pine nuts and fresh mozzarella. Bigger than I expected, so I packed away part of it for tomorrow.
I also ordered the toast with cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and oregano.
For dessert, I chose Alicia's cake. When I saw it, I thought it was going to be a chocolate mousse, but under the layer of chocolate was a hazelnut mousse, and below that was a chocolate crust. It was really scrumptious. Despite being full, I managed to eat every bite. Now I wishing that I had put it in a baggie.
For Trudy and the tea girls, this was right above my table. It says, “Where there is tea, there is hope. Perfect for the tea at Christ Church United Methodist.
So that is all that is fit to print. It has been pouring rain since I got to my teensy room.
Good night and God Bless!
