Alston to Greenhead 5/7/25

Good morning.  I am a day behind, but I hope to catch up tomorrow. It was another long, tough day,      21.7 miles.

I see a lot more green as I walk on.

And although it was again, ups and downs, I crossed back and forth over a stream.  I love to walk along rivers and hear the babbling, gurgling sound.  They each have a rhythm of their own. It is hard to feel anything but peace along a river.

The British seem to be obsessed with people falling in.  I realize it has been a dryer spring than usual, but if you drown here, you might drown in the bathtub.  I guess it is better to be safe than sorry. I have heard this ad nauseam for most of my life.

Knaarsdale Hall was quite the extensive manor house.  I got no idea that it was anything other than a family home.

Such odd colored sheep.  If they were humans, I would assume they dyed their wool out of a box instead of a good hairstylist. Thank you, Tamera, for all the years you made my hair look wonderful.

It was so nice to see so much green today.

These cows look like they have belly bands around them.  It made me think back to my early days in the FBI.  When I was in Quantico, the FBI Academy, I was in the first class of a group of ten women.  Before, only token women had been hired.  There were these old men (I was 25, so old is subjective) in the lab who decided to help us with our equipment.  They came up with the idea of issuing belly bands to hold our guns when we wore dresses. I asked (of course, it was me), “So, do we just pull up our dresses to get to our guns?” The faces on these poor men who had worked so hard to assist the women agents were priceless.  I still have the belly band and two of the ugliest brown purses imaginable.

Cock of the walk!

Mama duck and at least six hatchlings.
All babies are so cute.

I had several miles of walking through this tall brown grass.

From the trail, I had a mile or so to get to my hotel, and I crossed back and forth over the train tracks.  Mind the Gap!

My hotel was at the Blenkinsopp Castle Inn, and I loved everything about it.

This is Benson, the largest German Shepherd by far, that I have ever seen. He was massive. Benson is 14 years old and a total sweetheart.

I had a delicious dinner, "Sauteed Breast of Chicken
with either Leek & Stilton Sauce, or Peppercorn Sauce, served with Seasonal Vegetables and
Hand-Cut Chips."  I chose the peppercorn sauce, at my server's advice, and it was scrumptious. I once again waddled back to my room.

Good night and God Bless.
