Cajarc to Mas de Games

These are the two photos which did not come through for some reason.  The elegant dining room with the little dog and the photo of my main course smoked haddock with sauce and the fabulous vegetables served with it.

This morning, I wandered around for thirty minutes trying to find where to get on the trail. I made a complete circle back to the church.  How frustrating. Lucky for me, I asked many people and each would point where I needed to go next.  My French isn't good enough to follow a series of directions. I don't understand why so many Americans don't like the French.  It must be people who either never been to France or have only been with a big number of Americans at a port or on a bus tour.  Having been to France many times, I have always found very nice and helpful people.  Not once on this trip have I had anyone refuse to help me find my way.  They have stopped their cars and come out of the homes and businesses to point me in the right direction.  Thank heavens!

I went into the Church in Cajarc the first time I saw it. It was a beautiful church and always a good way to start the day.

The main altar.  No matter where I went in the church I could hear beautiful music playing.

I am always happy to find Saint James.  I have never seen him in this pose with his robe hiked up. Not sure what that signifies except I do know he was martyred. He doesn't usually have a dog with him but I have seen him several times with a dog here in Franch.

The ever-present River Lot.

A shrine built high on the mountain.

More views.

The remains of an old bridge.  Now there is a new modern one but the supports were left on each side of the River Lot.

I thought this rather clever for a drain pipe.

There are so many beautiful little cottages in the mountains.  The view must be spectacular. Although you cannot tell from the photo, the house is white stone with a tile roof.  The tile roofs are not corrugated looking like ours but made up of many circles.

If I took a photo of every cross along the way, you would be sick of me and I would never get them downloaded.  I only take photos of the ones that I think are particularly pretty or unusual.

A Church named after Saint Etienne.

The main altar.

And I thought these stained glass windows were very Louie the Fourteenth looking.

He was eying me so suspiciously. If he was smart, he would have jumped on my backpack and never let go.  Then he could go to the home where all cats are spoiled rotten and waited on by two servants, happy to fulfill their every wish.  LOL

I sat at a picnic table and this was my view.  I saved most of my pork from last night and a large breadstick that was part of my breakfast. Food for the trail is an increasing problem.  I will say that the pork was even better today than it was last night.

Look at this motley crew.  They were all barking and wagging their tails at the same time.

My guide book indicated that the whole day was uphill.  I started out with severe uphill but I didn't have to scramble. Then it leveled out a little with bouts of severe uphill.  It wasn't that bad.  I think the book made it seem like climbing Mount Everest so I was expecting it to be worse.  A bit like thinking a walk is 20 miles and it turns out to be shorter.  And it was shorter today--11.2 miles was all. WhooHoo!

Here's a door for Mary P.  I'm thinking dungeon.  I could see moss growing on the inside and you had to go down some stairs to get to the door.  Hmmm-- the beginning of an interesting story?

He found a perfect place to sleep...at the foot of the cross. Who would bother him here? Perhaps, he is looking for more than seven lives?

I am staying in a guesthouse. It is really nice but unfortunately, it is 2 miles from town so no opportunity of stock up on food.  I have it all to myself. I was downstairs at the kitchen table, typing this when I turned to the door and discovered that I had a peeping chicken.  There were actually two of them, big fat hens.  This one had climbed up on a pot so she could see better.  I guess they were the welcoming committee.

I am going to post this early and I will feel like I have the night off.

Prayers for all of you!
