Viterbo to Vetrella

Look at this bakery window.  It was right down from my hotel, and I couldn't resist taking some photos of the Halloween choices.

This amazing sculpture was on my way out o Viterbo.  It was huge and I thought so very clever.

Looking back at the church.

So as I was walking down the trail, I came across an Italian girl who was frantically using her iPhone to find a new route.  She managed to convey to me that there was a gate blocking the trail. She had backtracked about a half mile and was practically in tears.  She walked with me to the gate, and it had about three padlocks on it.  Sure enough, it didn't look good.  I noticed that there was a door in the gate with a slide bolt and I tried it, and it opened.  She smashed her palm on her forehead and said some words in Italian.  I am pretty sure they would have been beeped out on Italian television. But then she and I wandered around fields for about 45 minutes.  If you are going to be lost, it is good to have someone lost with you.  Finally, we found the teeny-tiny trail.  As my pace was quicker, so I soon moved ahead.

Baaaaa!

This residence (?) was located on the edge of town. And if you look closely, the decorations are made of shells.  Not sure about the taste level but I am always fascinated by the houses built into the hillside.

Love to see unusual markers even if I am not entirely sure what they mean.

This is my beautiful villa where I am staying. It is about two miles short of the town of Vetrella.  When I got here today I peeked in the gate and decided I didn't want a three-course lunch so I walked into town. The town sits high on a mountain-top and I wandered around until I found a little bar and had a panini. I had wound around so many little streets that I wasn't sure how to get back to my hotel.  I stopped at a restaurant/health food store and the woman motioned for me to follow her, locked the door and she drove me back to the hotel.  Although she only spoke a few English words, she told me they take care of the pilgrims.  WOW!  What nice people.

This is the view from my balcony.  I didn't' start so well at the hotel.  The power was out.  I couldn't take a shower because the shower was behind the door and it was pitch black when I closed the door.   Nor could I get on line. So I waited for about four hours, and I finally called Camino Ways (my booking company).  They said ""give it an hour and about thirty minutes later...poof...the electricity came on.  I didn't want to spend the night somewhere I couldn't even see to brush my teeth.  I was glad because I really like this place.  They have at least six cats and one dog.  The dog seemed kind of depressed, but he liked the attention.

So Caio for now!
