Hola!
Dennis and I met the most delightful man! He came up to us because we were speaking English and he wanted to use his English skills. He had such a glow of enthusiasm about him and a charming accent. His name was Borut (spelling?) and he had cycled over 3000 kilometers (1865 miles) from Slovenia. He had a very colorful jacket with Camino on the front and Slovenia on the back. Very high tech biking gear. He was planning on cycling back to Slovenia. He was in a bad crash in France and the doctor told him to take off for two weeks but he did’t. Borut said that the only thing that saved his life was his helmet His head whacked the pavement from the side when he went down on an oil slick. He had saved his vacation days for two years to bike this trip so he wasn't about to give up. He was so effervescent that we were excited for him. Buen Camino Borut! Our prayers are with you.
I had chocolate pudding for breakfast. That was certainly a first. All I could think of was the Bill Cosby schick where he served the children chocolate cake for breakfast and his wife got so mad. "We love Dad...Dad is great." What a shame that he turned out the way he did.
This is the Rio Carrion. It was so out of the banks that it had formed two rivers.
This picture says it all! Dorothy may have said, "There is no place like home (Kansas)" but there is. The road today was eight miles of perfectly straight/perfectly flat. Exactly like the road from Kansas City to Wichita. The last two plus miles had a little rolling hills. Hmm...I am sure I prefer the hard work of the mountains.
Dennis and I decided to split a paella and a salad. It looked wonderful but wasn't the best paella or the best salad I have had. Actually, the paella at Mojitos in Holiday Manor has an excellent paella, you just have to call an hour ahead.
Tomorrow is adios to Dennis. I head out on the trail and he takes a taxi to a train to return home. I will miss him! It is a different experience to solo hike than to hike with someone else.
