This is the Arco Santa Maria which was so perfect I thought I was headed into Disney World. It was one of the twelve medieval doors leading into Burgos during the middle ages. Wow! It looked new.
The Cathedral of Saint Mary of Burgos or Sant Iglesia Cathedral Basílica Metropolitana is a Catholic church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It was built in the twelfth century in the Gothic style. I swore I wasn't going to talk about any more churches or Cathedrals but the one in Burgos is just so beautiful...awesome! Skip down if you hate cathedrals. I love them because they feel holy to me and it is another opportunity to say those special Camino prayers. It was about twenty degrees inside and I froze as walked around. Dennis agrees they are too cold and decided he would wait and read the blog.
Capilla de Santa Ana.
I wanted to take many many stained glass photos but this was my favorite.
Well, except for the fabulous rose windows.
Capilla de la Natividad de Nuestra Señora appears to honor the women of Jesus time.
There were about eight or ten of the exquisite cared ivory panels about ten feet tall. They started with Jesus preaching to the masses and ended with him ascending into heaven. OMG. They were so interesting and so beautiful.
One of the many beautiful ceilings.
Such an interesting (modern) stained glass window. It looked like the signing of the Delclaration of Independence to me. Speaking of that: I just finished My Dear Hamilton by Stephani Dray. So fabulous. It dovetails into Hamilton, the play. Like the play but ever so much more. It is historic fiction about Eliza, his wife. Highly recommend!
In the exposition at the end of the Cathedral was this modern day angel. Loved it. He looks waiting to ascend.
As I walked from the Cathedral, this man was picking complicated Spanish guitar music. All for the price of a few coins in a hat. Not a better music performance of many I have heard recently.
I thought the poor Peregrino needed some lotion. He looked a little scaly to me.
Dennis looks a bit nervous sitting so close to the Perigrno. It would be Peregrina if it was a female!
