New Zealand 1/3/23 - 1/5/23

Here we are - NEW ZEALAND! On Tuesday, we drove from Louisville to Lexington, and then three flights later, we arrived in Christchurch, New Zealand. Our longest flight was a grueling 15 + hours. We flew from Lexington to Dallas and then to Aukland with a five-hour layover in Aukland and finally a short one-hour flight to Christchurch. We arrived absolutely pooped on Thursday at about 3:00 pm.

In our usual attempt to align ourselves with the time change, and this is an 18-hour time difference, we elected to stay up and stay active until bedtime.  Do you realize that an 18-hour time difference means that you crossed 18 time zones?  WOW!

Our first glass of New Zealand wine.  We had some time to kill, and after Dennis ordered these, we realized we had wine for breakfast.  Oh, well.  It was five o'clock somewhere.

We walked around until we found somewhere to eat.  I wasn't really thinking of Chinese, but this place was so cute that we decided to check it out. It was called Midnight Shanghai.

Our meal was delicious.  We started with some wonderful New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, my absolute favorite wine. We ordered a pot-sticker platter with six different pot-stickers ranging from chicken and prawns to vegetables. There were two of each flavor.

We followed that with Black Origin Wagu egg rolls, hot and crispy.  We ate them before I remembered to take a photo.  My favorite was the Dan Dan Spicy Sichuan noodles with bok choy, peanuts, and hot chili oil.  It definitely sent my taste buds on a firey trip, but I liked it!

Can't wait to start the actual hike after some serious sleep.  More tomorrow!  Sleep tight whatever time it is wherever you are!
