Miradola Terme to Piacenza 8/19/23

Good morning.  It should be about 10:00 Louisville time.  It is 4:00 here as I start today's post.  I didn't have to walk 30 miles today.  Whew!  Viadelsole, the Italian company that arranged my luggage transfers, arranged for me to ride along with the luggage.  I only had one choice of locations, and it was a little more than half.

My first stop was this little bar.  And it was anything but a bar from the devil.  The proprietor was the nicest woman, about 80 years old.  She insisted I take a cold bottle of water with me on my journey.
She spoke no English,, and I didn't understand anything she asked me, but you could see the kindness in her eyes. There angels among us if we just take the time to notice.

I am in Roma tomato land - fields and truckloads of them.

The city wall of Piacenza. It is a large city of over 100,000 people.

The Duomo of Santa Maria Assunta e Santa Giustina.

So many beautiful churches in Italy.

There were about five of the massive domes, each more ornate than the next.

Supposedly the artist painted his own face as Saint Peter and his wife's face as the Virgin Mary.

Across from the Duomo was an Italian nursing home.  It was a good city block long.

I could see th  s colorful street from blocks away. They are umbrellas. Clever!

The city market house.

I got a scoop of maracuja (passion fruit) and a scoop of strawberry.  What a joy for a hot, sweaty hiker.  It was divine.

Another block of umbrellas and my B&B is on the right side.

Italy has an abundance of beautiful fruits and vegetables.

I took many photos inside the Cathedral of Piacenza.  Cavernous would be an understatement.  About five people were chanting and it filled the entire church with the most amazing sounds.  Etherial is the only word I can think of.  I was humbled by the sounds inside this enormous church.

This guy just stopped in the middle of the street to take a phone call.  There were numerous cars behind him.  I guess when you have an MG this cool - what the heck.

I couldn't resist the sound of a caramized onion pizza.  A little different crust but those onions - Mama Mia.  I have half for tomorrow.  My breakfast this morning was just some packaged sweets and tomorrow's offerings look about the same so I went to the grocery store. Actually bought a small jar of Skippy peanut butter and some cheese.  I need the protein for these hikes.

So good night and sleep well.
