November 1: Campello sul Clitunno to Spoleto

Good morning for you and evening for me!

I don't usually comment on the sweet rolls that we get for breakfast here in Italy but this one was heavenly. It was a braided pastry with a filling similar to chess pie or maybe a cross between chess pie and pecan pie and then topped with toasted pecans.  I tried to find the name of it or even better a recipe but no luck. I might hurt somebody for another one of these.

This is Astra who has kept me company.  She sat in my lap all through breakfast. I didn't invite her but in that way of cats, he just pushed my hand out of my lap, jumped up, arranged things to his liking, and promptly went to sleep.  I did get some kitty love bites.

The beautiful park with the swan.  I think this road will be named after me.  I came in on it yesterday and today although I thought I knew where I was going, I went three miles in the wrong direction and then three miles back.  I have been by this park four times now. Once I found the bicycle trail I was on my way. It was only an added six miles. What the heck -- might as well get my money's worth. And I did at 17.3 miles.  LOL

I thought this little chef outside the restaurant was so cute. After I passed him four times, we were practically engaged.

So the funniest thing that happened today was that I stopped at this little bar for a diet coke.  These four people were sitting outside and all four were wearing Harley Hog leather jackets.  I thought maybe they were from the U. S.  It turns out, they were local Italians who didn't speak English and my Italian is limited to scuzzi, perfecto, pizza, lasagne, etc. The conversation went downhill and I think I told them that my Mother rides a Harley. Anyway, they were most impressed.  I can assure you that if my mother did ride a Harley, she would have the most fashionable Harley Hog leather jacket ever -- probably bedazzled.

This defibrillator was on a flat stretch.  Where they need it, is about halfway up on any of those mountains.

The "Little Temple," dates back to the fourth or fifth century and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  It was closed so I didn't get to see inside but it is reputed to have frescos that are the oldest in Umbria.

So the next eight or so miles were on this bike trail that was flat as a flitter (anyone actually know what a flitter is?)  Quite unusual for this hike to have any flat at all.  Tomorrow is a day off but the day after is rated very hard so I am thinking if I am lucky I will only go over one big mountain.

The beautiful skies as I approach Spoleto.  It sprinkled a little but I avoided the rain.

More cloudy skies!

So my excitement of the day was laundry.  This laundromat which sounded more like a kid's theme park was quite modern except the directions were all in Italian.  No surprise there.  While I was worried that I would have to wait forever for a washer, just the opposite -- no one was there. No one to help me.

I did okay with the washer but the dryer.  Oh, vey.  I put money in, and just pushed some buttons.  The first dryer ate four euros with no luck and the second one sorta dried my clothes with no heat -- one euro at a time.  But, the good news is that I have clean damp clothes spread all over my hotel room in hopes of them drying completely!.

So dinner tonight was just another normal wonderful Italian meal.  I ordered the Pecorino cheese for an appetizer.  Truthfully, most of it went in my purse for later.

I can't get enough of these fat noodles with truffles.  Such a simple dish but the ingredients make the dish.

So until tomorrow!
