Good morning or good afternoon -- whenever you read this. I have a day off -- not because it was scheduled but I have two nights in this hotel. I was supposed to walk to the midpoint and then call for a ride back. Since my phone crashed, I can't do that. I had hoped to have the taxi man (already paid for because of my suitcase) drive me to the midpoint and I would hike back to the hotel. That didn't work due to scheduling so I walked around here It is probably a good thing. I am struggling with hip pain that gets way worse when I try to go to sleep. The pain radiates down the front of my leg. According to Dr. Google, there is only one cause of this -- Bursitis -- aka tendonitis of the hip bursas. So a rest might be a good thing.
I thought this was funny. I am afraid of spiders and Dennis doesn't like them but I play the damsel in distress card if there is a spider.
There was some type of political rally in the main square plus there is a market day on Saturdays. This food truck had a big long line and I got into it. A girl needs some lunch.
This sandwich looks tiny but in reality, it was huge, filled with slow-cooked pork that was carved straight off the pig. No wonder there was such a line, it was to die for. Not your dry lean pork that we often get but tender succulent rich pork of old. I paraphrased this from the internet, "To make porchetta, a whole pig is deboned and gutted, then stuffed with garlic and herbs (especially rosemary), and roasted in its skin until crunchy, juicy and insanely aromatic. It is served sliced and stuffed into crusty rolls. Because it is boneless, every slice has spirals of tender meat, lush fat, and crunchy cracklins." It was delicious. I bought two of them...lunch tomorrow! Gotta think ahead.
The Duomo di Città di Castello aka the Cathedral of St. Florido. It was one of the most beautiful cathedrals that I have visited.
This is the main altar with the magnificent ceiling above it.
The main ceiling.
Everything was so ornate, gilded, and painted with beautiful murals...not an empty spot in the whole place.
The ceiling of the above a side chapel.
More gorgeous paintings. I am only showing you a small percentage and what looks like a ribbon above it is actually a painted ceiling.
Saint Florida -- the patron Saint of Città di Castello.
The beautiful rose window.
I then went to the museum and found this carving of St Florido. The original peace symbol...cool dude?
I thought this painting was just beautiful with its rich colors.
And this carved likeness of the crucifixion was so life-like -- beautifully done.
The museum had many famous ceremonial garments from former cardinals and above.
If it is physically possible to explode then you may read about a pilgrim in Italy. Mama Mia what a good meal I just had
My Primi course was "Linguine Champignons e Gorgonzola." So good I ate the whole thing- all of it. Gorgonzola can be overpowering. In spite of the fact that I could mainline Gorgonzola, it can easily blot out every other flavor. This was perfectly balanced. These local mushrooms are so good, so different from our bland mushrooms from Kroger. A little salt -- a little pepper -- more than a little parmesan and one's tongue does the chacha. My Secondi course was melon and prosciutto. This melon was so sweet and refreshing. I swear they gave me darn near a whole melon and enough prosciutto for two sandwiches. The prosciutto went into the baggie in my purse for the trail. I also had a plate of fresh artichoke hearts in olive oil which went into a different baggie in my purse. Are you realizing that I am already stuffed and I never touched the bread? I will dine well tomorrow.
Aaaaaah, the dessert! "Dolci del Giorno." Sweets of the house. There were four little desserts on this plate, each one better than the last. I took a tiny bite of each one but I put most of them into a third baggie. Good thing there were no more courses because I was out of baggies.
So sweet dreams to you all, and hopefully I will remain intact to hike another day!
Take care of yourself
