Today we hiked Munds Wagon Trail. It turned out to be almost nine miles round trip. It was pretty chilly when we started out. We warmed up quick as we climbed up up and up.
According to the Hike House Website, "This historic trail follows one of the first and most popular cattle trails out of the Sedona area. Upgrading of the trail began in 1896, but its completion as a wagon trail awaited the work of pioneer J.J. Thompson, funded by Coconino County, in 1902. It was known as the Munds Road and later as the Schnebly Hill Road."
Dennis and I pulled up a bolder to sit on. Lunch was cold pizza. Everything tastes good on the trail.
The trail markers in this area are pretty interesting and easy to spot.
The views were spectacular.
The trail offered some interesting footwork and was pretty steep in places. Can you imagine driving cattle over this? Or bringing a wagon over?
This was an out and back trail. I am always fascinated because you see totally different views on your return hike.
I took a dandy fall...a stupid fall. We had somehow gotten off the trail and I was looking for a trail marker and I tripped over a big rock. I went down hard, breaking my fall with my wrists and scrapping both palms. I picked several shards of rock out of my skin. I slammed my knee into the rock I tripped over and gashed my forearm. Fortunately, I am just fine. I have several black and blue spots but with all things said, only my pride was severly injured. I guess I need to watch where I am going!😜😜😜
Look at the symmetry of these cacti. Mother nature can be pretty precise. Of course, she has God's help.
Dennis and I had a big laugh when we crossed this trail. We saw some young guys on bicycles coming down Hangover Trail and they each looked as if they had tied one on the night before.
Such a beautiful day. The high was about 56...perfect for hiking.
We were tired when we finished but it was a great day and a Merry Christmas. We had dinner at Cucina Rustica, a beautifully decorated Italian Restaurant. We split a Green Goddess salad with ribbon kale, marcona almonds and parmesan. The dressing was their version of caesar. Yum! Dennis had their holiday special of turkey and dressing. I had Seabass Piccata called something fancier but I can't remember.the name. Who cares about the name it was delicious. We split a bread pudding with caramel sauce, berries and almond ice cream. Sweet dreams indeed!
