What a glorious day to hike. This is looking back on Colle de Val d'Else. If you look very closely, you can see a tiny modern box that was the 15 story elevator we took down from the high city. I have to tell you a funny story. You know how there are certain things that wives nag about? Well, Dennis only knows how to turn the water on at full blast and off. I have tactfully (?) pointed out that you can turn the faucet on just a little, but it fell on deaf ears. Well, this morning Dennis decided to wash his sunglasses and turned the bathroom sink faucet on full blast, and it nearly knocked him down and broke his sunglasses. I did not say "I told you so,", but I am sure he got the look that all husbands understand. Just kidding, Dennis, my handsome husband.
Look at the beautiful grapes for red wine!
And white wine! You know that Dennis and I are a mixed marriage. He drinks red wine, and I drink white. Somehow with major counseling, we have learned to live with it. :)
Glad he didn't jump from high above.
Dennis and I stopped at this beautiful B & B for a short break. I had a coca-cola light, nd he had a lemon soda. I think he is becoming addicted! I have to admit they are pretty refreshing and they even have lemon pulp in them.
'nuff said!
I think this placque says it clearer than I could ever explain it.
More beautiful scenery along the Camino.
Love information about pilgrims.
I saw this sign right before we entered the tree area ahead of Monteriggioni. Dennis and I have talked so often about how much more difficult it must have been in the olden days.
We had some major up before we got to Monteriggioni, our last town of the day. It seems to be the rule that we always have severe uphill at the end when we have tired legs. Whew!
The trail up to Monteriggioni. I swear I heard someone yell go back. Maybe it was just my imagination after reading about the old days. LOL.
We stopped here for a bit of lunch. For once, I managed to eat a reasonable lunch of salad and a small side order of white beans. Then I had a double scoop of gelato when I got into town. In all fairness, a double scoop of gelato is equal to one scoop of Graeters.
Closer up to Monteriggioni!
Looking back through the portal.
These were the most beautiful petunias I have ever seen. Look at the unusual stipe of them.
The Church of Santa Maria. It was very austere but every bit as holy as the magnificent basilicas.
These are the lizards that we see by the hundreds or thousands. This little guy wasn't shy at all. In fact, I am sure that he posed for me.
Our beautiful farmhouse hotel. It is at the center of a winery called the Fattoria II Colombaio. We got a wine tour and ended up ordering a case of fabulous wine...six bottles of red and 6 bottles of white. Our host is the fourth generation, and his kids are the fifth generation. Then Dennis and I had a private dinner with a spicy Pomodoro pasta followed by thinly sliced pork in a rosemary sauce and oven roasted potatoes. No complaints here. It was better than wonderful.
I am sure that I will sleep well tonight and I hope you do the same! Caio!
