Th e Basilica de la Encina is Renaissance style basilica built the 16th century.
Unusual cross on the outside of the church right next to the beautiful entrance.
I went to the church last yesterday with a special prayer in my heart. My friend (our friend) Sue Bench lost her husband. He passed in his sleep on Saturday night/Sunday morning. There was a Spanish man who had lit one candle and was singing his heart out while playing the beautiful Spanish guitar. The melody was a soulful tribute. Never have I experienced this in a church before. I knew that this song was especially for Herb as he made his way to heaven. My prayers every day for Sue and her family.
The main altar of the church...always the ornate Spanish over the top gold.
I can't help but love the beautiful stained glass windows.
The carving of the three women at the foot of Jesus was particularly moving and life-like. Magnificent art.
The view from my hotel window at about 9:30 last night. It was a glorious night and I sat outside taking in the mountain sights and air for the longest time.
