Hello all! I have the day off in Rieti. It is a beautiful old city with lots to see and do but unfortunately, it has been raining all day.
The Cattedrale di Maria Assunta was built in the Romanesque style in 1108 but the spread and affirmation of Christianity in Rieti dates back to the second century.
Saint Francis
The high Altar
I thought the altar next to it was stunning.
The Dome Capella del Sacramento.
Look at the incendiary. It reminds me of the Camino de Santiago but on a much smaller scale. Wonder if they ever burn incense in it?
Capella di Saint Rocco has been venerated for centuries as the protector against the plague and all contagious diseases.
These were two of these sets of organ pipes facing each other
It appears that the closer I get to Rome, the more ornate and more beautiful the cathedrals get.
Perhaps the most non-eventful day of the whole trip. It poured rain all day and I was bored so I ate a bunch of junk I had for my backpack. Too full to go out and eat a proper dinner. So until tomorrow!
