Montefiascone to Viterbo

Today was magnifico with NO rain. It is amazing how clean and beautiful everything looks right after a rain.  Makes the world smell good too.  The best views in the beginning.

The sign above the archway says that Roma is 100 kilometers (62 miles) away, but that is "as the crow flies."  Just like the Camino de Santiago, many people only walk the last 100 kilometers.

The view from leaving Montefiascone, still foggy but that gave the scenery an ethereal look.  Special in its own way..
A tribute to the pilgrims.

Look at this little entryway garden.

This pigeon acted like he owned the joint!

Just for you dog lovers, aren't they cute!

There are mountains looming in the background.  I am hearing the music from jaws!

I have never seen this trail marker before.  I knew that you could walk to Jerusalem, but I am not sure it is safe?

At 12.1 miles I reached the entryway into the old city of Viterbo. Viterbo is quite large.  I walked another six miles, round and about, just looking at sites in the town.

I thought this marble relief was really pretty to depict such a violent scene..  It is marble.

The church of John the Baptist.

I think the painted ceilings in this area are just beautiful.

All went very well until I got to the hotel and my suitcase wasn't there.  Dave came in right after me, and his bag was in the storage closet.  I knew immediately there was a problem, but you can't call Camino Ways until 4:00. Sure enough, no suitcase by 4:00.  I called Camino Ways and they were very responsive, and the emergency guy told me he would get back to me. You can imagine my concern when the first call I got back was that the pick-up driver said my suitcase was not at my hotel when he picked up the others.  The CW man told me to give him some time and he would investigate.  I only had to wait about twenty minutes (a very long twenty minutes filled with some desperate arrow prayers). Seems like the group leader from a guided hike had accidentally also picked up my suitcase and transported it.  After CW called me back again, my cherished and very necessary belongings arrived in only twenty minutes.  Whew, that was a close one.
